COLOR EDITING
Some Close-ups may be in B&W because of the meaning of the lyrics and the relation with the visual. As an example the shots were she is raising her dress the lyrics talk about sexual abuse and the fact that girl may not have the physical and mental strength to keep control over the one the one abusing. Using colors for shots with lyrics like this would be inappropriate for the reflection of the lyrics in the visuals.
In my music video, I added also a b&w effect to half of my shots.
The shots that I edited in b&w are any other shots which aren't close-ups and other shots where due to the lyrics I judged that it would fit better the atmosphere.
After finishing to arrange my shots and adding effects I used Colors setting, still on Final Cut Pro where I edited the colors, saturation, and Brightness/Contrast
I edited every shots with color setting and when I was using the shot at a different time, I used color corresponding to match the colors that I had already edited and I could save time
Here is an examples of color editing of one of the shots but without any Brightness/contrast editing
After editing the colors, I edited the contrast/brightness
With the help of color editing, I was able to enhance the meaning of the songs and I think that without the use of the b&w effect, I wouldn't have the same results even though sometimes the colors of the shot were nice I still preferred to use b&w to fit the topic.
