MUSIC VIDEOS :
SHORT DESCRIPTION :
Writing is appearing in the music video to enhance the lyrics sung. Based on Goodwin's theory music video makes the audience forget about the lyrics of the songs and manipulates the audience with the music videos, this is why in music video the artist is often put in first place in order to promote himself better. Here, the singer is making fun of those conventions and is enhancing it by adding the lyrics for them not to forget to listen to the song.
The simplicity makes the audience pay attention the protagonist action, from seeing this video I decided upon creating a music video with few changes of camera angles and location to keep the attention on what is happening in the music video and not on where it is happening. By using a minimal location and not specific ones it can also insinuate it happens everywhere in the world not just at that specific places
At a certain moment in the song the rhythm changes due to this the music video changes completely of ambiance. The lights become red and blue the shots are longer and slower, even though this is not the type of music video I wanna make, I analysed the change of ambiance because during the chorus of my song the singer sings and doesn't rap, that needs a change of rhythm in my music video during the chorus, I would need longer shots with less cut, maybe lip sync.
The lyrics of my music video is about gender discrimination. During my research, I looked at different types of music videos that has a single protagonist making the center of attention. In those videos, we can clearly see the focus is on the girl which makes them look confident. I'm planning on using also one protagonist to drag the attention to her actions and not the lyrics, in order to manipulated the audience as in the Goodwin's theory.
All the analysis that I made above, all elements that I'm planning on including in my music video. Starting with the writing appearing the music video, the change of ambience, the simplicity of the location for the main focus to be on my protagonist and the rest of the elements in my music video. And also analysed music video already about gender inequality and feminism to see how different each one can be but still transmit the same message.
LONG ANALYSIS
The introduction starts with the title of the video "mental" by after presenting the protagonist using a mid-shot. The shots are reversed making the model appear as if she is dressing up but in the contrary she is actually undressing on the unedited shots. After the presentation of the model, we are getting into the mood of the video starting with short close-ups shots of the characters with visible longer cuts than usual. Those are followed by more sensual shots, the first way shots is a close-up of warm crawling on a apple, the way it was film can insinuate that it was to represent the sense of touch by adding after the sense of taste with the following shot representing the protagonist eating, the connection between those shots is made with the apple which is present in both shots. Throughout the rest of the video, there will many shots about the sense of the human body, the song makes the shots feel more sensual. In addition to the sense of the human body which is related to the mental topic, they are others shots with quick but meaningful actions in relation to the topic of the video, the use of displaying 4 times the eyes opening making the impression they are all looking at you. Another examples, when the protagonist screams at herself in the mirror is a conventional shot for the topic, same for the 360 camera movement around the model to make us feel dizzy. The use of a black & white filter enhance that mental atmosphere created but at a certain point, he uses only one time colors for a shot that lasted barely 1 sec, this is about making confuse, putting us out of the atmosphere like a mentally heal person can feel out of the society. The camera movements improve even more the atmosphere we are in, we try to follow the shots but then it gets the other way around really quick or changes completely to another shots. Another important aspect is the lenght of the video, if it would have been longer the audience would started to get bored because we were getting nowhere which also the aim of the video, so in order to makes the feeling he succeed it in my opinion to give it was important that the video wasn't longer than a minute because we would have been turning into to many circles, here he succeed it to make us turn once into a circle and ending the video with all the feeling we got in a short amount of time. If we would have time to process the feelings we get for each shot the results wouldn't have been the same.
